Lesley and David - Our Holiday Has Ended

This is the final postcard of our travels, coming to you from our home town of Melbourne.

We last emailed you from the verdant southwest of W.A. which we reluctantly left to push on eastwards.
Albany’s fabulous coastline with its dramatic granite rock formations, superb white crescent beaches with
multi-hued blue seas and rolling waves, enticed us to stay, but after four days we drove on. The country
changes dramatically and by the time we reach Norseman the orange sandy plains with spindly eucalypts spread
out on either side of the long straight stretches of road.

It’s hot, 38C, and windy when we hit Australia’s longest straight stretch of road; 145kms fading to the
horizon. David is disappointed that the wind keeps his speed mostly to a very moderate 90 – 100kms during
the day and by dusk the constant reminder of dead and live kangaroos does the same. We have a couple of
nights camping out literally “ in the middle of nowhere” on the Nullarbor and are pleased that we have
managed to be self contained for water etc from Norseman to Ceduna. Even though crossing the Nullarbor is no
longer the arduous trip of the past we still get a thrill at having done this iconic Australian roadtrip and
I get my crossing certificate signed.

We roll through the golden wheat country of Eyre Peninsula to Lucky Bay where we board the SeaSA Ferry for a
rather rough crossing to Wallaroo. From there it was such an easy drive south, that Adelaide almost took us
by surprise, and so at last our travel path had come full circle, and really the end of our trek

Our week in Adelaide was a wonderful homecoming of spending time with very dear friends, and of course, my
dear mum.

Now on to a new adventure back in Melbourne!

Thank you for sharing our journey with us, and please, stay in touch!
